Poppy Day Bingo

All across the country at this time of year, you’ll see many people sporting poppies in support of the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. The appeal has been running since 1920 and wearing a poppy is way of commemorating those in the British Armed Forces who have died. A few months ago we brought you the breaking news that many Americans are taking up the sport of Cow Chip Bingo. If you need reminding, this is a game of bingo which depends on a cow doing its business on a specific area of a field. If you’ve put a bet on that area of the field, you’ve won bingo. It is that simple and of course, was an idea that came from the US of A!

Bingo Calls For The 21st Century

Traditional bingo calls have been an important aspect of bingo since the early days of the game. Each number from 1-90 has been attributed with one or more calls as a way of reinforcing to bingo players which number has been called. The most famous calls include Two Little Ducks – 22, Two Fat Ladies - 88 and Legs 11. Interestingly, all three of these calls have been assigned their particular names due to the shape that the numbers make. (more…)

Here in the UK, bingo is the only form of gambling that is more popular with women than it is with men. Recent statistics have shown that online bingo players are made up of 85% women and just 15% men. However, the assumption that playing bingo is relegated to the older generation is recently proving untrue, with more and more players signing up to play bingo online in the younger demographic of 18-25. Bingo in Church!

Great Yarmouth council have called for its residents to make suggestions for the future use of the old St George’s Chapel which is to be refurbished. The 18^th Century building will be preserved and restored but it won’t return to its original glory as a place of worship. Instead, the residents of the borough have had their say as to what to do with the building. (more…)
