All across the country at this time of year, you’ll see many people sporting poppies in support of the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. The appeal has been running since 1920 and wearing a poppy is way of commemorating those in the British Armed Forces who have died. The poppy appeal begins at the end of October and you’re likely to have seen poppies on sale up and down the country. The appeal culminates on the 11th September which is officially known as Remembrance Sunday but has also been named Poppy Day. Remembrance Sunday takes place on 11th September as a recollection of the end of World War I, which ended on the 11th November 1918.
Money raised by the British Legion is used to support British veterans of all wars including those who have been in recent conflicts in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. The charity supports ex-service men and women along with currently serving members of the armed forces. It is undeniably one of the most important charities in the country and here at UK Bingo news we’re wearing our Poppies with pride.
Bingo is playing its part in the fundraising for this year’s Poppy Appeal in Chard, Somerset. The residents of the town have been invited to a prize bingo evening at the Guildhall on Friday 14th November with doors opening at 6.30pm. The event, that has been organised by Councillors Andy and Jenny Keaton is hoped to be a huge success and aims to raise a substantial amount of cash for the British Legion.
If you’re lucky enough to live in the Chard area, why not get involved in a game of bingo for a truly worthy cause. You can also support the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal by visiting their website here! If you aren’t wearing a poppy already, go get one and wear it with pride!
